Stunning news from Buckingham Palace. King Charles has cancer. The palace made the announcement today and says the cancer was discovered during diagnostic tests done after his procedure for an enlarged prostate. He is being treated as an outpatient, and it is being reported that Prince Harry is flying home to be with his father.

Britain’s King Charles has cancer. The cancer was diagnosed while he was being treated last week for an enlarged prostate, which was benign. A statement from Buckingham Palace says, “A separate issue of concern was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer. He has been advised by doctors to postpone public facing duties.” The news was met with worldwide consternation.

Prince Harry and his father have spoken, and Harry is flying back to the UK to be at the king’s side despite their long estrangement. There’s no indication whether Meghan will join him. The exact nature of the cancer was not disclosed, but he is beginning his cancer treatment today. Perhaps an indication of how serious the diagnosis is.

What I’m thinking about a lot right now is bladder cancer, and I’ll tell you why. It’s the fourth most common cancer in men. It’s about 800,000 people worldwide. About one out of 100 times when you do that scope going into the bladder, you find it.

When the 75-year-old monarch was released from the hospital last week, he looked well. On Sunday, he attended church with Queen Camilla. CBS foreign correspondent Ramey [inaudible 00:01:54] is outside Buckingham Palace.

The word is shock. The word is devastation. The word is also sadness, depending on who you speak to. People are saying that even though this is the king of the United Kingdom, he’s also a father, he’s also a grandfather, and that anyone who has a diagnosis of cancer will be received with sympathy, with empathy here.
