Brazil’s electoral authorities have Lula at a 50.8 to 49.2% advantage, with 99% of all votes counted. President Biden released a statement congratulating Lula and praising the country’s, “Free, fair and credible elections.”

77-year old Lula served as Brazil’s president from 2003 until 2010, before he went to prison in 2018 on corruption charges. He will take office on January 1st.
