Indiana doctor sends Ohio AG cease & desist letter Transcript
Dr. Caitlin Bernard’s attorney sends Ohio AG a cease & desist letter. Read the transcript here.
Speaker 1: (00:00) We've got the new comments tonight from that Indiana doctor who helped a 10 year old rape victim from Ohio get an abortion. Tonight around seven o'clock Dr. Caitlin Bernard tweeted out, "It's been a difficult week and she hopes to share her story soon." All of this comes just hours after she sent out a cease and desist letter to the Indiana Attorney General. Two days ago, Todd Rokita went on Fox news saying Bernard had a history of failure to report and then yesterday announced his team was investigating the doctor. So today, Dr. Bernard's attorney went on MSNBC to discuss that cease and desist letter, outlining demands that he stop making false statements. Kathleen Delaney: (00:41) Our hope, immediate hope, with that letter that we sent today is that Mr. Rokita will stop vilifying my client and stop trying to change the story away from what really happened here, which is that a 10-year-old child was raped and abused and had to travel across state lines to get medical care that she needed. Speaker 1: (01:02) Around five o'clock this afternoon, Rokita's team told us they are reviewing that cease and desist letter, but they say there were not any false or misleading statements made. 13 Investigates Tonight looked into Dr. Bernard's history. A report from the department of health shows she reported the 10-year-old's abortion, according to state law. Now, we didn't find any criminal cases in state courts involving Dr. Bernard in regards to failure to report. A search of the Medical Licensing Board's website also came up empty tonight on any disciplinary issues. And today, IU Health told us their investigation found Dr. Bernard followed privacy laws.
