Speaker 1 (00:00):

Action News reporter Corey Davis has been learning more overnight about what happened to Hamlin and joins us live with more. Good morning, Corey.

Corey Davis (00:05):

Hey, good morning. So yeah, this ended up being far more serious than anyone would’ve hoped and would’ve would’ve wished for. So this is the part of football no one wants to see. We know from Buffalo Bills officials that Hamlin is sedated right now and listed in critical condition. I want to give you a look there. The reaction of the players on the field waving medical teams over said it all about how serious this was. It happened near the beginning of that game in Cincinnati against the Bengals who had just scored. Buffalo got a field goal and then as Cincinnati was driving with the football for a second time, Damar Hamlin made a tackle, but the 24 year old collapsed back to the turf. Players from both teams were crying, kneeling, praying, hugging each other. They formed a wall around Hamlin as paramedics administered CPR. Buffalo Bill’s officials saying that the medical team was able to restore a heartbeat after Hamlin, a second year safety out of Pittsburgh, suffered a cardiac arrest.

(01:01)
So here’s a look at the exact timeline. So the 8:55 is when the injury happened. 9:18 the game was temporarily suspended. 9:25 ambulance crews there left the stadium. The game was officially postponed at 10:01. The NFL gave a press conference over the phone before they knew Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest, but spoke about the emergency action plan that is rehearsed at every stadium. Take a listen.

Speaker 3 (01:25):

There is a level one trauma center in each and every one of our cities that’s connected to the emergency action plan, and that’s where the ambulance took Mr. Hamlin. That’s where he is now getting the best possible care.

Corey Davis (01:40):

And Hamlin is at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center for further testing and treatment right now this morning. This was supposed to be a huge game that would’ve shaped the playoff picture for not only those two teams, but many others as well. And right now all that people care about and what’s most important for fans and those teams in the entire league is that they rally behind Hamlin, hoping that he pulls through.

Speaker 4 (02:06):

Thank you Corey, so young for this to have happened.

Corey Davis (02:07):

Yeah.

Speaker 4 (02:07):

Thank you.
