Biden on Ukraine: 'Yes I called it genocide' 4/12/22 Transcript
President Joe Biden for the first time referred to Russia’s invasion in Ukraine as a “genocide” Tuesday. He first said it at an event in Iowa, and he repeated the term before boarding Air Force One to return to Washington, DC on 4/12/22. Read the transcript here.
Speaker 1: (00:02) [inaudible 00:00:02]. Speaker 2: (00:04) Mr. President, what made you use the word genocide today? Speaker 1: (00:09) Mr. President, have you seen any- Speaker 2: (00:16) Mr. President? Speaker 1: (00:17) ... evidence to support genocide in Ukraine, sir? Joe Biden: (00:19) Yes, I called it genocide because it becomes clearer and clearer that Putin is just trying to wipe out the idea of even being able to be a Ukrainian, and the evidence is mounting [inaudible 00:00:28] than it was last week, the more evidence is coming of literally the horrible things that the Russians have done in Ukraine, and we're going to only learn more and more about the devastation, and we'll let the lawyers decide internationally whether or not it qualifies, but it sure seems that way to me.
