Well, this morning, the political world is abuzz as outspoken critic of President Trump is going to be out of a job.

News Anchor: (00:05)
CBS news projects that Liz Cheney has lost her primary race in Wyoming. As you may know, she’s one of the only two Republicans on the January 6th Committee.

Chris: (00:13)
CBS News’ Bradley Blackburn is tracking the results for us. Bradley?

Bradley Blackburn: (00:17)
Chris, Mary Cheney has served three terms in Congress, but last night she lost her primary race by more than 30% it’s proof of former President Trump’s power to influence Republican voters and take down a Wyoming political dynasty.

Liz Cheney: (00:32)
This primary election is over, but now the real work begins.

Bradley Blackburn: (00:38)
With her mother and father, Dick Cheney, steps away, a defiant Congresswoman Liz Cheney conceded her primary bid for reelection in Wyoming to Harriet Hagerman.

Liz Cheney: (00:48)
No office in this land is more important than the principles that we are all sworn to protect.

Bradley Blackburn: (00:54)
The three term incumbent was defeated by Hagerman, an attorney who embraced former President Trump’s support, as well as his baseless claims that the 2020 election was stolen.

Harriet Hagerman: (01:05)
Wyoming has spoken on behalf of everyone who is concerned that the game is becoming more and more rigged against them.

Bradley Blackburn: (01:12)
Cheney faced an uphill battle for reelection after her vote to impeach former President Trump in the wake of the Capitol Hill riot. She later became vice chair of the January 6th Committee.

Liz Cheney: (01:22)
We must be very clear-eyed about the threat we face and about what is required to defeat it. I have said since January 6th that I will do whatever it takes to ensure Donald Trump is never again anywhere near the Oval Office. And I mean it.

Bradley Blackburn: (01:39)
The former president took to social media to celebrate Cheney’s defeat, writing in part, now she can finally disappear into the depths of political oblivion where I am sure she will be much happier than she is right now.

Olivia Tanner: (01:52)
I’m a Trump fan, and I think she just sort of turned her back on him.

Bradley Blackburn: (01:59)
Of the 10 Republicans who voted to impeach Trump and faced a primary challenge, only two have prevailed and will go on to the general election in November.

Bradley Blackburn: (02:09)
And she may be defeated, but Liz Cheney is not leaving the political stage. While she is still in office, she’ll continue leading the January 6th Committee, and allies say that she is considering a presidential bid in 2024. Chris?

Chris: (02:22)
All right, Bradley Blackburn. Thank you so much.
