If you’ve ever spent hours manually transcribing a voice recording, you know how tedious the process is. Rewind, replay, pause, type, repeat. It takes, on average, four hours to transcribe one hour of audio. But there is an easier way. Simply upload a high-quality audio file on Rev and we’ll automatically transcribe it for you in minutes.

What is Automatic Transcription?

The technology used for automatic transcription is based on artificial intelligence. It uses speech-to-text software that is able to listen to a voice, use certain algorithms to interpret words and convert your audio to text. Speech recognition software, while not 100% perfect, has become so sophisticated that it can recognize most words despite certain nuances in pronunciations and accents.

How Long Does an Automatic Transcription Take?

With Rev’s fast transcription services, it takes approximately five minutes to automatically transcribe 30 minutes of audio. At a cost of 25 cents per minute, you’ll pay only $3.00 for a 30-minute audio file. That’s affordable and accurate transcribed audio in just minutes.

In the example below, you can see that a 2-minute video can be automatically transcribed in five minutes compared to two hours when choosing a human transcriber.

How To Submit Audio For Automatic Transcription

When you want a quick transcription, choose the automated transcription service and follow these easy steps.

1. Create an Account

Signing up on Rev is easy. Once you have an account with us, you can order as many transcriptions as you like and add multiple users. If you’d like a quick trial first, we’ll give you the first 45 minutes for free.

2. Record Clear Audio

Rev’s automated speech recognition software promises 80% accuracy, provided you supply a clear audio recording. It’s best to record indoors to avoid outdoor background noises such as crosstalk, wind, or traffic.

When you record, speak clearly into the microphone. Make sure no one is talking in the background, no kids or animals are making noise, and turn down the TV or music. Poor audio quality or inaudible speech will reduce the accuracy of the transcript. If mistakes are made, our built-in transcript editor allows you to make corrections as the audio is being transcribed.

If your audio quality isn’t the best, we suggest using our human transcription service instead, which has a 99% rate of accuracy.

To backtrack, you can click on any part of the transcript text to repeat the audio. You can also highlight certain parts of the text and export only the highlighted sections in a document. This is a handy feature for long documents that you want to summarize or eliminate unnecessary or long-winded sections.

6. Export Transcript

When you’re satisfied with the final transcript, you can export it as a Plain Text, MSWord, or a PDF document or caption it in SubRip Text (SRT) or WebVTT formats.
