Jamie Foxx (00:00):
… Steve L. Steve L. Man, we used to take this saying for granted, that God is good. God is good…
Audience (00:23):
All the time.
Jamie Foxx (00:23):
And all the time…
Audience (00:23):
God is good.
Jamie Foxx (00:26):
I cannot even begin to express the love that I feel from everybody out there.
Audience (00:32):
We love you, Jamie.
(00:32)
We love you, Jamie.
Jamie Foxx (00:41):
I've got to be honest, when I saw the memoriam…
Audience (00:46):
We love you.
Jamie Foxx (00:58):
When I saw that memoriam, I was like, man, that could've been me. I don't know why I went through what I went through, but I know my second chance, I'm not going to turn down. I'm not going to turn down. I have so much love to give. I told him, I said, "Man, bro, just give me one more crack at this, and I promise," I said, "Whatever reason you put this on me, I promise I'm going to do it right. And I'm going to do right in front of y'all, because I know a lot of times when we get on, we forget about where we come from. When I did my special, ti was for the Black people. Black people was the one that said, "Man, we got you." Not to say that white people can't pray either. I know that sound weird, but y'all know what I'm saying.
(02:13)
It's like you guys held me down and I don't want to make this whole speech about that, but you can't go through something like that and not testify. A career that I could only thank God for. Hey, for real, though. I'll rock your world, any given Sunday. My name is Willie, << Willie Beamer >> The music << She take my money well I'm in need. Yeah, she's a triflin' friend indeed. Oh, she's a gold digger. Way over town that digs on >> The rest is history. I know we got to go. There's so many people to thank. Marcus King, I see you out there. We started this. I see you, Marcus King, out there. Shout out to my team, Rick Yorn, James, Chuck, Ian, thank you so much for pulling me through.
(03:43)
I'm seasoned. I don't say I'm old, but I am older. So usually at this time around this age, you're playing that father on the Disney. You got that big ass sweater and the coffee mug. But luckily I have a great team that stabilized me. Thank you to BET for this wonderful award. Thank you, and I say this all the time, thank you to Black people and the Black award because this is what really counts. I'm serious. This is what really counts. A lot of people think like the Oscars is the biggest thing. And we got to quit thinking like that. We got to quit thinking like that.
(04:35)
And that's coming from a person who won. Well, I won an Oscar. I was nominated twice. But the Icon Award is the most important award because it comes from us. To have this moment and not say we're being challenged, we're being challenged. It wasn't about the price of eggs. We're being challenged. That's all I… I don't want to say nothing. I don't want to get into it. I don't want to get to init. But Black people, it feels great. And you know why I say it feels great when it's coming from y'all? Because there's always someone in the audience that says, "Man, my cousin do the same shit."
(05:26)
I can't go enough about the career, but I have to thank my family. I have to thank my sister, Deidre, who's in the audience right now. When I went through what I was going through, she shut it down and she made sure that she took care of her brother. A little black girl from South Dallas and she does all the hair and makeup on the Marvel films. That's her. I know I got to go. My beautiful daughter, Corrine, I cannot say enough about you. You've always taken the backseat to everything, but when you needed to drive it, you drove. And you made sure I was here, and I ain't going to turn down and I'm not going to stop crying. I got to stop, at a certain point, I'm going to stop crying, but I ain't going to stop just yet.
(06:37)
Stevie, you almost got elbowed. I got a bad joke, I ain't going to say. Not since the Oscars… No, I'm just kidding.
Speaker 3 (06:47):
Sir Foxx.
Jamie Foxx (06:49):
Thank you so much.
Speaker 3 (06:49):
Sir Foxx, here's your award.
Jamie Foxx (06:50):
Thank you so much, Stevie. I got one more thing to say. One more thing, Stevie. How did he know? How did he know to just… Okay, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. Steve L. Anelise Estelle Foxx, my baby with the big hair. She hides under that hair because she's something, she got something special. You're so beautiful, man. When I was fighting for my life in there, I got to say this, they said that, "We going to lose him because his vitals is bad." And I didn't want my 14-year-old to see me like that. But my Anelise overheard the conversation and she snuck into my hospital room with her guitar and said, "I know what my daddy need."
(08:09)
And as she played the guitar, my vitals dropped and I realized that God was in that guitar and the nurses ran in and said, "What did they give him?" And my daughter says, "Shh, I got him." God is good. And all the time…
Audience (08:27):
God is good.
Jamie Foxx (08:32):
I see you, Shaboozey. I see you, Kirk Franklin. Kirk, thank you. And I need you. I need you. I need you for something special. And I need you to give me your workout program too, because you are jacked. Have you seen Kirk? Like he just lifting Bibles every day. "Put another Bible on there." Thank you to BET. Breyon Prescott. Breyon Prescott, thank you so much for putting me in this music game. Thank you for putting this all together. I know me and Breyon go back a long way and y'all know how me and Breyon's relationship is. It's on again, off again. I'll never forget, me and Breyon had a fight at the Usher concert. Usher was like, and me and Breyon was going toe to toe. But that's what brothers that love each other do. So thank you so much for that.
(09:39)
And thank you again for this Icon award and thank you for Stevie and thank you for Babyface. Thank you to Tank. Thank you for Jenna Hudson, Ludacris and everybody, thank you so much. We love you. I love you and I'm never going to turn down and make sure you come see me. I'm doing some jokes, so come check me out. I got some jokes for your ass. I love you.
