Rebecca (00:00):

Countdown to the Oscars. Lara and Chris Connolly are in Hollywood with what we could expect on Sunday from which races are the tightest to who could make history. It is great to see both of you the big stairs, the big golden guys. How you doing? Good morning Lara.

Lara (00:15):

And good morning to you, Rebecca. Yes, we are here. I mean this is the spot. The champaign carpet is laid out. Work is being done already this morning. Behind the scenes, producers are already are at work, literally around the clock and everybody is making their picks. Who will take it home? Everything Everywhere All at Once, will it win everything? This is the guy who seems to know everything.

Chris Connelly (00:35):

Oh sure. Yeah.

Lara (00:36):

I find that you have a very good finger on the pulse.

Chris Connelly (00:40):

Well, let’s put it this way. There are front-runners and audience favorites, vying to win. There’s a host of from the heart acceptance speeches that are very much in play. All of it going to make for an intoxicating Oscar night brew as we count down the hours to the big night on Sunday.

Speaker 4 (01:06):

Spanx, tight braces figured to have pulses racing Sunday night. Will Elvis’ Austin Butler outdo The Whale’s, Brendan Fraser and Banshees of Inisherin’s Colin Farrell in a best actor free for all?

Movie snippet (01:20):

There was another attack on one of our outreach facilities.

Speaker 4 (01:24):

Can Marvel’s first acting nominee regal Angela Bassett from Black Panther Wakanda Forever withstand a late charge in supporting actress from Jamie Lee Curtis in Everything Everywhere All at Once?

Movie snippet (01:35):

How as laundromat owner, a karaoke machine could constitute a business expense?

Movie snippet (01:41):

I am a singer.

Movie snippet (01:45):

Of course you are.

Speaker 4 (01:47):

Will it be Gaga, Rihanna, or neither invest original song? And while Everything Everywhere’s Michelle Yo prepares to make history as an Asian nominee invest actress, she’s facing a little last minute controversy after sharing this now deleted post exploring nomination’s lack of diversity, and mentioning the two previous Oscar wins of rival Kate Blanchett. Negative references to other nominees is an academy no-no.

Speaker 8 (02:31):

There doesn’t seem to be any malice behind it. She immediately took it down. It was up for about two to three hours, which were the final two to three hours of final voting. So we don’t expect any implications.

Speaker 4 (02:43):

And there may not be anything standing in the way of Everything Everywhere, which could be the first science fiction best picture in Oscar’s 95 years.

Chris Connelly (02:54):

And this year’s 10 nominees make it the highest grossing best fixture category ever for the first time. That includes two sequels, Avatar, The Way of Water and Top Gun, The Way of Water. No Top Gun Maverick and Tom Cruise is one of it’s producers.

Lara (03:07):

I know. And I want to talk to you about Top Gun Maverick. They didn’t win anything major in the award season leading up to this, but is there a world where they could sneak in the film?

Chris Connelly (03:17):

Absolutely. It’s totally got a puncher’s chance. There’s every chance we would see Tom Cruise up there holding an Oscar. That would be incredible. I think if they had an award for best producer, Tom Cruise might win. He fought to get the movies made and this is one of the most popular movies of the whole year.

Lara (03:32):

It’s going to be absolutely be so fun to watch, Chris. Thank you so much for all of your insight.
