… packages in there. One of them apparently detonated.

Speaker 2: (00:03)
An explosion on the campus of Northeastern University injures a staff member. The bomb squad responded to take care of a second suspicious package. And overnight, Northeastern says they expect to open for classes as usual today.

Kate: (00:16)
Meanwhile, the FBI is on the case. Nick Giovanni’s live on campus with the new details about the investigation. Nick?

And Kate, the I-Team has learned there was a manifesto that came with the package that was opened here on campus railing against Mark Zuckerberg and virtual reality. That package, delivered to Holmes Hall, detonated a little after seven o’clock last night we’re told when a staff member went to open it. School tells us that staff member, a 45-year-old man, was taken to the hospital with a minor arm injury. No students were hurt. The building, which is full of classrooms and offices, was evacuated as were a pair of connected buildings while Northeastern police, Boston police, and the FBI all descended upon the campus. Now, once it was deemed secure, Mayor Wu said it’s of the utmost priority for the city to ensure the safety of students and staff.

Mayor Wu: (01:03)
As a mom, I just sent my own two little babies back to school in our Boston public schools. I take very seriously that this city is home to everyone’s young people, from our littlest learners up to our college students and university staff.

Nick Giovanni: (01:24)
We’re told a second similar package was found on campus rendered safe by the bomb squad. Again, investigators say the campus is now secure. The investigation continues. Live in Boston, Nick Giovanni. WBC This Morning.
